NLP Videos Explained - The Purpose of Pacing and Leading

In this particular video, we are introduced to the fact that there are many different ways in which pacing and leading can be applied. However, this particular professional conveys the fact that the most basic motivations and intents behind pacing and leading in NLP Coaching is to ensure that you, as the professional, have a ground level of rapport with the person, or group of people, that you are working closely with. In a basic situation where two people are communicating, these individuals connect in what we like to refer to as a "conscious" level. Those that implement the use of pacing and leading in NLP Coaching want to ensure that there is a level of connection that is "unconscious". This is absolutely necessary when it comes to Neuro-Linguistic Programming.

When working in my professional practice, I find that there is one component that will always ensure success when using Neuro-Linguistic Programming. If you find that you have this component, you will succeed in your endeavors. This is whether or not you lead and your client follows. The professional in "The Purpose of Pacing and Leading" also agrees that as long as a coach has that "unconscious" connection with the person that they are working with, they will be successful. NLP Coaching is more than simply making surface changes, and the individuals that pursue your services are looking for more than simple surface changes. They want to achieve a "better" state of consciousness. When you practice pacing and leading, you have the power to do just this. You even have the power to bring a person from one emotional state to another emotional state.

When a professional NLP Coach paces and leads, it is important to consider the physiological aspects of their client’s being, as well as the psychological aspects of their being. This includes things like breathing, heart rate, and the such. If you are able to do this, it will be beneficial in the fact that you can transition your client from a state of mind that may result in stagnation in life to a state that can be a bit more on the productive side. At this point in the video, it switches over to a section that covers the use and secrets behind using metaphors in pacing and leading. Any successful NLP Coach knows and understands the simple importance that these little tid bits of the English language provides when it comes to pacing clients, and leading them in a set direction.

It has been found that metaphors are most effective in NLP Coaching when the intended meaning behind them are never described or expounded on. When using metaphors during coaching, it is important that you allow your clients to pull their own meaning out of them. Furthermore, just as you should never reveal the meaning behind the use of a metaphor, you should never, ever inquire about the meaning of one in which another individual uses. When pacing and leading, it is vital that the unconscious mind is permitted the luxury of interpreting any type of metaphor. This allows the unconscious mind the ability to work on and interpret the meaning of the metaphor so that the client can move from one state in their life to a higher state.
